Yale’s Past – Forklift History

Yale forklifts have an interesting history dating back to the late 1800s when Linus Yale Jr., the inventor of the cylinder lock and key, founded the Yale Lock Manufacturing Company in Connecticut, USA. The company initially focused on producing high-quality locks but later expanded its operations into other areas. In the early 20th century, Yale began to diversify its product line, branching out into materials handling equipment. By the 1920s, the company had started releasing battery powered low-lift platform trucks, a range of high reach trucks and one of the first tilting fork lift trucks.

Over the decades, Yale continued to innovate and improve its forklifts, incorporating new technologies and design features to improve performance, safety and efficiency. The company expanded its product range to include various types of forklifts, such as counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks and narrow aisle forklifts, catering to a diverse range of customer needs.

Today, Yale is part of the global materials handling giant, Hyster-Yale Group, which continues to build on the legacy of innovation and quality established by Linus Yale Jr. over a century ago. With a focus on meeting the evolving needs of customers and advancing the field of materials handling, Yale forklifts remain at the forefront of the industry.

Yale GP20-35UX

The GP20-35UX forklift is part of the UX series and comes with options for LPG, diesel and Dual-fuel power. For example, LPG engines are typically a good overall engine for indoors and outdoors, but a diesel engine is better for outdoors where terrain is more uneven and the load is heavier. The UX series is designed to give maximum operator comfort whilst still maintaining the durability and solid carrying capacity of Yale forklifts. On the comfort side of things, the GP20 forklift provides a:

    • dual suspension system
    • comfortable amount of legroom
    • smaller steering wheel with adjustable steering column.

The GP20-35UX has a carrying capacity of 2 to 3.5 tonnes making it ideal for medium to heavy loads. It’s best suited for indoor warehouse work. This forklift also has no computer-based diagnostics required which will help keep servicing simple. The forklift has a large service and repairs access area making it quick and easy for a service technician to get the job done.

    Yale GDP/GLP20-35VX

The Yale GDP/GLP20-35VX series offers efficient solutions for material handling needs. These forklifts are equipped with innovative features to enhance operational efficiency, including an advanced cooling system that maintains lower temperatures for improved component life. The Intellix Vehicle System Manager ensures optimal performance by monitoring and protecting the lift truck’s engine and transmission.

Operator comfort is prioritised with ergonomic design elements such as the AccuTouch mini lever hydraulic control module and the Yale Hi-Vis mast. The Veracitor VX series is engineered for reliability, featuring durable components and enhanced serviceability to minimise overall operating costs throughout the truck’s lifespan. Fuel efficiency is optimized in this series, and tyre replacement costs are reduced with innovative features like the Auto Deceleration System and Pit Stop Line tyres.

What Engines Do Yale Forklifts Use?

Yale forklifts typically use a variety of engines depending on the model and specifications of the forklift. Some common engine brands found in Yale forklifts include Cummins, Yanmar, GM (General Motors) and Mazda.

Yale forklifts predominantly use Mazda engines as their main engine options. This choice is primarily due to several factors, including reliability, performance and compatibility with Yale’s forklift designs. Mazda engines are known to be durable making them well-suited for the demanding tasks often required in materials handling applications.

        Yale Forklift Price

Prices for Yale Forklifts can range from $15,000 to $50,000 depending on the model and type of forklift. Generally, the smaller the carrying capacity, the lower the cost will be.
